Homelessness is a topic of long-standing importance, which today is even more acute on the agenda of European societies. In early October, Silvia Vasileva, Vice President of the Health and Social Development Foundation (HESED), was a guest on the program \u201cHorizont do obed\u201d on the Bulgarian National Radio with host Irina Nedeva. The main emphasis of the interview was placed on the contemporary challenges related to homelessness and the need for systemic solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several key topics were discussed during the interview:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2714\ufe0f Visible and invisible forms of homelessness \u2013 people who are on the streets and those who remain outside the scope of official statistics, but live in extremely unstable or insecure housing conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2714\ufe0f HESED\u2019s participation in the first national census of homeless people, which is due at the end of the month. This initiative is an important step towards preparing a realistic picture of the scale and profile of homelessness in Bulgaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2714\ufe0f The alarming findings of the international study conducted by the SOLACE-CEE project together with partners from four other European countries. The study highlights the increasing housing vulnerability and the need for early prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2714\ufe0f The need for a coordinated, comprehensive and long-term approach \u2013 between institutions, organizations and local communities \u2013 to improve the situation of homeless people and create sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
